The sibyl, so the story goes, was a woman named Amalthaea who lurked in a cave on the Phlegræan Fields. The painting can be seen in the Uffizi Gallery. Most interesting, perhaps, is the legend of the Cumæan sibyl, who took her name from the nearby town of Cumæ, a Greek colony dating to about 500 B.C.– a time when the Etruscans still held sway much of central Italy and Rome was nothing but a city-state ruled over by a line of tyrannical kings.Ī Renaissance-era depiction of a young Cumæan sibyl by Andrea del Catagno. The Fields, in short, are hellish, and it is no surprise that in Greek and Roman myth they were associated with all manner of strange tales. Fire bursts from the rocks in places, and clouds of sulfurous gas snake out of vents leading up from deep underground. The portion that is still accessible on land consists of a barren, rubble-strewn plateau. The volcano is still active–it last erupted in 1538, and once possessed a crater that measured eight miles across–but most of it is underwater now. The Fields are part of the caldera of a volcano that is the twin of Mount Vesuvius, a few miles to the east, the destroyer of Pompeii. There is nothing remotely Elysian about the Phlegræan Fields, which lie on the north shore of the Bay of Naples nothing sylvan, nothing green. Turner in 1823, well before modernization of the area obliterated most traces of its Roman past. I just really like the idea of this world type and would be very happy to see your creation in the game.Baiae and the Bay of Naples, painted by J.M.W. So just giving my thoughts to maybe spark more ideas into your head !Īnyways, sorry if im overstepping my boundaries as a reader. I just really like the idea of this world type and would be very happy to see your (and partially LordChickenMan's) creation in the game.
Īnyways, sorry if im overstepping my boundaries as a reader. i think i read about that in official posts about the space station. Such as a terrible parasite? or even just harmless fauna that could mess up the balance of the world. Either from the player inadvertently dragging one along or resort goers. I think another particular idea that would be kind of cool (but stressful for the residents, and even player if they have substantial funds placed into the resort) would be stow away creatures. however it might have to have certain restrictions to prevent others from trading over very wealthy resort bearing Elysian worlds, so that lower geared players arent able to exploit it for easy income. and ImmortalFrog's idea to be able to sell ownership or even gift it to to other people is an amazing idea. Yay Descriptions for the resort! I really like the option to buy the resort. Of course, if there is no resort, a player can simply build their own, and a resort on an Elysian world is guaranteed to be popular, as long as the necessary facilities are provided. based on contributions by Manilian and ImmortalFrog Material Emancipation Grids have been installed to ensure compliance). Additionally, players regenerate health rapidly when in the pool, and can gain temporary stat boosts by eating at the restaurant, and pick up helpful rumours by drinking at the bar (NOTICE: All food and drink bought at the resort must be consumed on the premises. Players who do well at the mini-games are rewarded with certificates and vanity items. While visiting the resort, players may visit the recreation areas, casinos and arcades to play mini-games, allowing for a bit of a change of pace. However the player aquires the hotel, they can then leave a hireling in charge, returning every once in a while to collect their share of the profits. However, a particularly evil player could kill everyone in the hotel and claim it for themselves, while an especially rich player could buy it. The equipment used by hotel security is specifically designed to function only for the guards and cannot be salvaged, so stirring up trouble in the hotel isn't likely to reap much in the way of reward. Hotel guests, even quest-givers, will never carry any valuable equipment, and any violence in the resort will result in a substantial security force being summoned. Guests from every intelligent species can be found staying at these resorts, and may even offer quests, although these will almost always take the player to a different planet. These places are usually well-appointed, with numerous facilities including pools, recreation areas, casinos, bars and restaurants. Some Elysian worlds are home to luxury resorts, set up by visitors looking to make some money out of the beauty of the local environment.
